Undergraduate Midwifery Program
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (MIDWIFERY) (310824)
The Bachelor of Science (Midwifery) is for people who wish to study midwifery but are NOT Registered Nurses. The course emphasises the close integration of evidence based theory and clinical practice. Theory content is comprehensive and includes the physical, biological, psychological and social sciences. All students receive clinical experience in a wide range of community and hospital settings. These are co-ordinated with theoretical study units and progress from simulation and observation visits to more prolonged periods in selected maternity care settings.
The course is structured over three (3) years full-time. Over the six semesters the contact hours are 1500 hours theory and 1500 hours clinical experience.
The course has been designed to meet the regulations of the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia (NMBWA) and the Australian College of Midwives Standards for the Accreditation of Bachelor of Midwifery Education Programs leading to initial registration as a midwife in Australia.
The Bachelor of Science (Midwifery) is accredited with the NMBWA.
